If you’re appalled ‘psychologist’ is not protected it’s time to act! 🕰️ ✍️ The petition to ask for the law to be changed so that there are safeguards in place to protect the public is now live. In other countries such as 🇦🇺 🇳🇿 🇺🇸 it IS illegal to call yourself a psychologist unless you’re appropriately qualified but here in the uk 🇬🇧 if you’ve done a 3 year degree or even if you just fancy calling yourself a psychologist having never even picked up a book let alone seen a client or had supervised practice then you can legally call yourself a psychologist. (Ethically and morally are of course a different thing altogether!) 💼 It’s important this is changed because in the most part when people see ‘psychologist’ they assume that people are professionally qualified. ☑️ I am particularly passionate about this because I am a professionally qualified psychologist but also because I work so hard in supporting the needs of aspiring psychologists that I really want it to be something incredible for people once they do qualify. I want them to have a profession they feel proud of and that someone can’t just claim to have by changing their job title. 🇬🇧 This is something that matters not only now but to the future of mental health care and treatment in the uk. 👍 Please take action by signing the petition below and then come back to this post and let me know in the comments that you’ve signed.
